The Matt Campbell era in Happy Valley has not gotten off to the kind of start Penn State fans would've hoped. The Nittany Lions rolled through their non-conference schedule which led the committee to believe they would be a CFP contender, but they've struggled against increased competition.
The Nittany Lions' offense has completely come back down to Earth once Big Ten play started, as quarterback Rocco Becht has not found the same level of success. A lot of those struggles started when wideout Koby Howard went down with injury, but it might be a lot to expect for them to flip the script immediately even if he's able to return in short order.

Purdue vs. Penn State prediction, pick:
One interesting note here is that Purdue has allowed the most passing yards in the Big Ten, so if there was ever a week for Becht and company to get going, it could be this one.
On the other side, Penn State has allowed the fewest passing yards in the conference, which might call for a muted impact from Boilermakers quarterback Ryan Browne. With that said, Purdue is a run-first team, as evidenced by running back Fame Ijeboi's Big Ten-leading 130 rushing attempts. The Nittany Lions have conceded the third-most rushing yards in the conference.
These two defensive metrics could lend itself to a sneaky over, especially for a Penn State team that has not lit up the scoreboard. Taking Purdue and the points feels like a prudent move, even if Becht and the offense are able to find some semblance of rhythm in this game.
Prediction: Purdue 26, Penn State 21
