The Oklahoma Sooners have fired offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, according to a report from Matt Zentiz of CBS Sports.
The move comes after Oklahoma lost 42-25 to the South Carolina Gamecocks at home. The defense scored one of their three touchdowns on a pick-six and had two more interceptions, but the offense was unable to take advantage of them.
Arbuckle was in his second season as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator after head coach Brent Venables hired him from Washington State. The success he had with the Cougars did not translate, with the Sooners scoring 26.2 points per game in 2025 and 22.0 in 2026, ranking 79th and 108th in the country, respectively.
He brought quarterback John Mateer with him, but he has struggled to find his footing
in the SEC. In 20 career games at Oklahoma, he has completed 63.5% of his passes for 4,720 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. He has not thrown for over 300 yards in a game this season.
The Sooners are now 4-4 overall and 2-3 in SEC play, scoring 14 or fewer points in four of their games. They will have another tough game this Saturday when they play the Florida Gators on the road.
