The Miami Hurricanes are returning to Nike, according to a report from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The deal with Nike is for 10 years and worth over $200 million and is the largest of any Nike school, he added.
Miami has been partnered with Adidas since 2015, when they lured them away from Nike with a 12-year deal; their new deal with Nike will start ahead of the 2027 college football season. According to Jackson, Adidas countered but "did not match Nike's exact terms."
The Hurricanes signed with Nike in 1987 and won all four of their national championships with them. With them rejoining the Nike brand, the Hurricanes can once again wear throwbacks of their national champioinship winnings teams, something they were not able to do while
signed to Adidas. Head coach Mario Cristobal has built them back into a contender over the past few years as they work to win their first national championship since 2001.
Nike and Adidas are two of the biggest apparel companies in college athletics, and Miami is just the latest program to change sides. The South Carolina Gamecocks switched from Under Armour to Nike earlier in the year, while the Tennessee Volunteers left Nike to rejoin Adidas.
