It's been a rough stretch for Kansas football and head coach Lane Leipold. The Jayhawks haven't been factors in the Big 12 even before Leipold's time with the program, but Kansas hasn't shown much improvement under the coach in the last couple of years.
Fortunately for Kansas and their fans, they get a short reprieve from Big 12 action against Middle Tennessee out of Conference USA. Blue Raiders head coach Derek Mason is facing the same uphill battle as Leipold, as Middle Tennessee has finished 3-9 in each of the last two seasons.

Middle Tennessee vs. Kansas prediction, pick:
Middle Tennessee's last three games have
all been decided by 10 points or less, and the Blue Raiders are 1-2 in those games. They did beat Nevada a couple weeks ago behind a strong performance from running back Antonio Martin Jr., who rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown in that contest.
Kansas hasn't played as many close games, but did hang tough against Arizona State last week in a 24-17 loss. The turnover margin ultimately did the Jayhawks in, as they gave the ball up three times, and didn't force any turnovers of their own.
It's understandable as to why the spread is nearly 20 points in this game, but Kansas doesn't feel 20 points better than Middle Tennessee right now, at least not confidently. Their money line should be safe, but the Blue Raiders could do just enough to secure the back-door cover in this one.
Prediction: Kansas 28, Middle Tennessee 20
Best Bet: Middle Tennessee +19.5
