We are less than a month into the college football season, but already, some stars have started to rise in front of our eyes. Among them is Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback Kamario Taylor, who has taken the sport by storm over the last three weeks with his breakout performances in Starkville.
Through three games, the sophomore QB has thrown for 832 yards, 11 touchdowns, and one interception while adding 178 yards and one touchdown on the ground. The Bulldogs are 3-0, and coming off an impressive comeback win over the South Carolina Gamecocks.
While vibes may be sky-high in Starkville at the moment, in this current era of college football, there is the reality of what could come this offseason, though. With the transfer portal running rampant
and NIL spending more lavish than ever, QB-needy teams are going to be throwing bags at Taylor once the season comes to a close, trying to get him to leave Mississippi State and join their more prominent schools.
It appears that the Bulldogs' AD Zac Selmon is ready for that.
"We’re going to be as competitive as we need to be," Selmon said to On3.
That's one thing to say; it's another thing to follow through with. Already, there has been a lot of talk about "where" Taylor is going to be playing in 2027, and earlier this month, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman released a damning quote from an anonymous Big Ten coach: "He’s gonna look awesome in a Hurricanes uniform next year.”

Of course, this is a future storyline for Mississippi State to worry about, and not something they need to spend time trying to fix before it actually becomes a problem. For now, they can relish the fact that they have one of the premier young quarterbacks in the nation, and he's rising faster than anyone would have ever imagined.
If they want to keep him beyond this season, they're gonna have to pay for it.
