Michigan State has taken two tough losses in back-to-back weeks in coach Pat Fitzgerald's first season, and the news got even worse Monday.
Star Spartans running back Cam Edwards will miss the rest of the season with an injury, Fitzgerald confirmed Monday. Edwards exited Saturday's 31-13 loss to Nebraska in the first quarter with an apparent knee injury and was carted off the field. He later appeared on the sideline using crutches.
It's a huge loss for a Michigan State offense that has struggled at times. Edwards paced the team with 304 rushing yards and three touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. The offseason transfer from UConn was a 1,240-yard rusher last year and scored 15 rushing touchdowns.

The Spartans are 2-2 after back-to-back losses to Notre Dame and Nebraska, which came by a combined 35 points. They now face a Week 5 road trip against Wisconsin, which upset Penn State with a 17-point comeback on Saturday, and they will be without one of their top offensive players for the remainder of the season.
