Maryland finished 1-8 in Big Ten competition last season, and head coach Michael Locksley has cited Proverbs in hopes of teaching his Terrapins an important lesson ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Locksley specifically spoke about Proverbs 14:23 during Big Ten Media Days on Thursday.
"I'm not the spiritual preachy guy, but Proverbs is the book of wisdom. Eight years as a head coach in this league, a total of 16 years as an assistant and head coach, I've learned a lot that the only way you win and have success in the Big Ten is in the trenches," Locksley said.
The Terrapins head coach went into more detail about the specific lesson he wants his team to extract from the verse.
"As I said, Proverbs 14:23 talks about the more work you do, the richer you become.
The more talk you do, the poorer you become," he said.
Maryland's 2026 first chance to display their proverbial wealth comes on September 5 at home against Hampton.
