This contest between the Cougars and Wildcats features two first-year head coaches hoping to establish a strong foundation. Collin Klein at Kansas State is hoping to bring the Wildcats from decent to formidable in 2026, and it's fair to say they made a statement in Week 1 with their 71-3 rout of Nicholls State.
Washington State and Kirby Moore are looking for their first victory of the season after falling in the Apple Cup to Washington 24-10 last Sunday. The Cougars finished 0-9 on third down, which can't continue if they want to remain in games this season.

Washington State vs. Kansas State prediction, pick:
Perhaps the
Cougars' offense was too predictable on Sunday, as quarterback Caden Pinnick was the team's leading passer and rusher. Perhaps some of that had to do with receiver Tony Freeman leavingthe game early, but he didn't exactly have a great day through the air. Pinnick went 16-25 for 142 yards and two interceptions. He turned 14 carries into 61 yards and a touchdown.
Given the one-sided romp from Kansas State, it's hard to know exactly what type of team they'll be when facing stronger competition, but they have to be encouraged by the performance from quarterback Avery Johnson. Johnson threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns.
Expect the Wildcats to have a more versatile attack in this one, which should allow them to keep the Cougars on their heels.
