Both programs have to head into Tuesday night's clash with confidence that they could find themselves at or near the top of Conference USA's standings at the end of the season. MTSU and FIU both enters this contest at 1-1 in conference play, and both the Blue Raiders and Panthers hung with Jacksonville State, the only undefeated team in CUSA.
The Panthers lost a close one to Jacksonville State last week 27-24, and have to be kicking themselves after committing 12 penalties. On the other hand, the Blue Raiders pulled out a 33-30 win against Delaware last week thanks to a Roman Gagliano touchdown pass with just over three minutes left in the game.

Middle Tennessee vs. FIU prediction, pick:
Although MTSU had a great day offensively last week against Delaware, points figure to be a lot harder to come by against FIU. FIU leads Conference USA in fewest yards allowed per game, which may force the Blue Raiders deep into their playbook in order to put points on the board.
The Blue Raiders will also have a lot to worry about up front, as Panthers' defensive linemen DeeJay Holmes Jr. and Kenton Simmons have five sacks and four sacks this season respectively, which means Gagliano could be under heavy duress all evening.
If there's one saving grace for MTSU, it's that FIU quarterback J.J. Kohl leads CUSA in interceptions with seven. Things could get dicey for the Panthers if Kohl can't fix his turnover-prone ways, but they should be able to hold off the Blue Raiders at home.
Prediction: FIU 26, MTSU 19
