Week 6 treats us to some American Conference action in the Saturday afternoon slate.
The East Carolina Pirates (2-2, 0-0 American) started 0-2 with a blowout loss to Alabama and a frustrating one to in-state foe Appalachian State, but they've won their last two games over Old Dominion and North Carolina Central. Now, they face a Rice (1-4, 0-1 American) team that has dropped four in a row since a season-opening FCS win over Houston Christian.
Two of those four losses came in one-score games, including the Owls' American opener against UTSA last week, which they lost 16-14.

Both teams have some offensive issues. ECU doesn't have much success on the ground, and the passing game, led by veteran journeyman quarterback Mitch Griffis, has left much to be desired. The Pirates are much better on the defensive side of the ball, particularly against the run, which means this is still a good matchup for them.
Rice's passing game is largely nonexistent, which is to be expected for a team that essentially runs an option-based offense. They run the ball a ton with 239 rushing attempts already this season, but the success rate on the ground is still fairly low.
The Owls only really have one way of scoring offensively, and I don't think it will be enough against a more talented team.
