Dave Aranda entered the 2026 season on the hot seat, and he will leave looking for a new job.
On Sunday morning, it was first reported by ESPN that the Baylor Bears are parting ways with their head coach after seven seasons. During his time in Waco, Aranda went 40-40, with a 1-2 bowl game record that was highlighted by a win in the Sugar Bowl after a 12-2 season in 2021.
However, there was hope that Aranda could show something in 2026, and after getting out to an encouraging 4-1 record, Baylor lost the last two games they played, including a 25-24 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday in Week 8.
Now, the Bears are cutting ties and moving on, looking to get a jump start on the coaching carousel this season.
In Aranda's place, ESPN's Pete Thamelreports
that defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman will step in as the interim coach for the remainder of the season.
Baylor is an attractive job in the Big 12 Conference, and with the right coach at the helm, they should be able to compete for conference championships and spots in the 24-team College Football Playoff.
