The South Carolina Gamecocks have made a late addition to their roster, signing former Houston Cougars kicker Ethan Sanchez, according to On3's Pete Nakos.
Sanchez made 21 of his 26 field goals last season and all 43 of his extra point attempts last season, being named a Lou Groza Award semifinalist. The Dallas, Georgia native also received All-Big 12 Honorable Mention recognition by the conference and made Phil Steele's All-Big 12 Fourth Team.
His three game-winning field goals against the Oregon State Beavers, Arizona Wildcats, and UCF Knights all came with less than three minutes to play, tying the Big 12 record.
Sanchez was out of eligibility following the 2025 season, but was recently granted a temporary injunction by a court in Texas that
made him eligible for the 2026 season and allowed him to enter the transfer portal. While he attended a rookie minicamp with the San Francisco 49ers, he never signed a contract with them or played in a game.
He spent the first three years of his career at Old Dominion, emerging as their kicker as a true freshman in 2022. He played in 33 games for them, making 35 of his 46 field goal attempts and 101 of his 106 extra point attempts.
South Carolina is set to open the 2026 season against the Kent State Golden Flashes on Saturday in Williams-Brice Stadium. The game is set to start at 12:45 p.m. ET and will be on the SEC Network.
