We continue our preview of the Week 1 college football slate by looking at an ACC squad looking to bounce back from a frustrating season.
Syracuse won 10 games in Fran Brown's first season in 2024, but after a 3-1 start that featured an upset over Clemson, the season was derailed by quarterback Steve Angeli's season-ending injury. The Orange lost out, finishing 3-9.
Now, they open 2026 against a New Hampshire squad led by first-year coach Sean Goldrich. The Wildcats were an FCS playoff team last year, but they started the 2026 campaign with a 28-14 Week 0 loss to Albany.

Angeli is back and seems to be healthy, but the Orange also improved the backup situation if that isn't the case by adding Kennesaw State transfer Amari Odom. Elsewhere on the offense are interesting pieces in blue-chip freshman receiver recruit Calvin Russell III and running back Ahmad Miller, a 1,000-yard rusher at FCS Jackson State last season.
Defensively, it's a heavily portaled unit with some intriguing pieces up front in EDGE players Tunmise Adeleye (UNLV transfer) and Keyshawn Johnson, an FCS All-American at UT Martin last season. On the back end, it does return some solid starters like cornerback Chris Peal.
New Hampshire had a good day through the air from quarterback Brooks Bentley in the loss to Albany, but it struggled to run the ball and was itself gashed on the ground, with the Great Danes running the ball 53 times for 374 yards as a team.
If that's what's happening against a fellow FCS squad, this game is probably going to be pretty painful.
