The New York Jets (2-4) ended their three-game losing streak last week with a narrow win over the Cleveland Browns and the Jets were likely hoping that victory meant that they were turning the corner. New York had the chance to test that theory during their visit on Sunday to the New England Patriots (4-2), but the Jets just couldn't get enough stops to beat one of their AFC East rivals.
The Jets lost to the Patriots on Sunday 26-19 as they quickly fell behind by two touchdowns as they went into halftime with a 17-2 deficit. Quarterback Geno Smith had a decent game passing the ball as he didn't make too many mistakes against a New England defense that can be had while rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. came back from his high ankle sprain with a vengeance
by notching over 100 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and New England had little issue moving the ball against New York's defense as he threw for three touchdowns while having no interceptions or sacks and the Patriots' running game averaged over 4.0 yards per carry. After Sunday's loss to the Patriots dropped the Jets to a 2-4 record, here is Jets Wire's stock report for New York:
Stock Up: RB Braelon Allen
With starting running back Breece Hall once again out of the lineup due to his quadriceps injury, Allen once again the main guy running the football for the Jets against the Patriots. Not only did Allen use all of his size and strength to create as many yards as possible after first contact, he also did his work in the passing game to be a safety value for quarterback Geno Smith.
Stock Down: TE Kenyon Sadiq
Sunday continued a troubling trend for the rookie tight end as he is seemingly becoming less involved in the offense with offensive coordinator Frank Reich looking for the right combination of players to keep the chains moving. Sadiq isn't too far removed from a 7-catch, 105-yard game where he showed his potential, but as of now, he seems to be one of the more inconsistent pieces within the offense.
Stock Up: LB Jamien Sherwood
The Jets had their work cut out for them in their visit to New England to take on quarterback Drake Maye and the Patriots, but Sherwood did his part to make offense for New England to come by on some of their possessions. Sherwood has been one of the better tacklers on New York's roster, but he also did make an impact in rushing the passer as he was able to pressure Maye on some of his dropbacks.
Stock Down: CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Brownlee came to the Jets last season as the team was looking for more players that could make plays for a defensive backfield that struggled to make anything happen to disrupt their opponents. Brownlee has been one of the more versatile cornerbacks on the team since his arrival via trade from the Tennessee Titans, but this was one of those games where his presence was not felt enough.
Stock Up: QB Geno Smith
Despite not being able to get much going with his best pass-catcher in wide receiver Garrett Wilson, Smith was impressive in spreading the ball all over the field, including to rookie first-round wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. The Patriots clearly designed their defensive gameplan around not letting Wilson beat them easily and yet, Smith kept his composure, didn't take unnecessary sacks, and made virtually every throw that was open.
Stock Up: WR Omar Cooper Jr.
The aforementioned Cooper returned for this matchup after sustaining a high ankle sprain in the first game of the season and it looked like he was ready to go from the first play. Cooper not only found a way to get open on multiple occasions, including when Smith was under duress and had to scramble to keep the play alive, but he also proved that he could be a deep threat for a Jets team that likely wants to push the ball downfield more often.
