The New York Jets' offensive line continues to be an important part of the team's search for greater offensive consistency. Pro Football Focus' latest rankings offer a way to evaluate how New York's front five compares with the rest of the NFL, looking beyond team results to assess individual performance and the overall strength of each unit.
Evaluation considers individual PFF grades, with additional weight given to pass protection and the tackle positions. The methodology provides a broader assessment of offensive line play than any single game can offer.
The Detroit Lions top his list. The Pittsburgh Steelersreceived the highest ranking in the AFC, landing at number three. The AFC East comparison is particularly interesting, with all four teams
occupying different positions. The results offer another perspective on how the Jets' offensive line stacks up against its divisional competition.
New York moved up one spot to No. 15 overall, placing third among AFC East offensive lines. The unit features Olu Fashanu at left tackle, Jordan Meredith at left guard, Josh Myers at center, Joe Tippmann at right guard, and Armand Membou at right tackle.
PFF's methodology assigns each offensive lineman a score between 5 and 10 in half-point increments, drawing on PFF grades from the previous three seasons where applicable. Pass protection receives additional weight, while the left and right tackle positions receive a slight weighting in the overall team score.
That approach helps explain why the ranking doesn't necessarily swing dramatically after one disappointing performance. New York's latest outing against the Miami Dolphins, however, highlighted areas that still require attention.
All five Jets starters surrendered two pressures inthe 28-25 loss to Miami. Myers was the only starter to receive an overall PFF grade below 60.0, while Fashanu was the only member of the group to earn a pass-blocking grade above 65.0.
The results reflect a line that has remained competitive in the broader rankings but still needs greater consistency across the unit. New York cannot rely on one or two strong individual performances to compensate for weaknesses elsewhere, particularly when its offense is struggling to finish drives.
How the rest of the AFC East compares
The Buffalo Billslead the division's offensive lines at No. 4 overall, unchanged from their previous position. Left tackle Dion Dawkins continued to excel in pass protection against the Las Vegas Raiders, allowing no pressures on 38 pass-blocking snaps. Even the lowest pass-blocking grades among Buffalo's group in Week 6 came from its guards, both of whom earned a 74.5 grade.
The New England Patriots climbed 13 spots to No. 14 after navigating injuries along their offensive line against the Chicago Bears. All five starters earned overall PFF grades above 60.0, including backup guards Matt Pryor and Walter Rouse. Their performance demonstrates how effective line play can hold up even when a team has to make adjustments to its starting personnel.
The Miami Dolphins remain at No. 25. Their victory over New York came despite uneven performances from right guard Jonah Savaiinaea and right tackle Austin Jackson, both of whom recorded pass-blocking grades below 45.0 in that game. Center Aaron Brewer was a bright spot, leading Miami's offensive line with a 72.5 run-blocking grade.
The bottom line
The Jets' placement reflects a unit that has maintained a respectable standing despite the team's offensive inconsistency. However, the individual grades from the Miami game show why the overall ranking shouldn't be mistaken for a guarantee of reliable performance every Sunday.
New York needs its offensive line to provide more consistent protection and create opportunities for the running game, especially as the offense searches for a dependable identity. The rankings offer a useful snapshot, but the unit's ability to perform collectively in the weeks ahead will ultimately determine how much the Jets can accomplish on offense.
