The New York Jets added veteran leadership on both sides of the ball this offseason. As expected, two of the generals on defense, Demario Davis and Minkah Fitzpatrick, are already saying all the right things.
For Davis, returning to the franchise that drafted him has made this latest chapter especially meaningful.
"I couldn't ask for a better situation," Davis said. "I'm grateful to be here."
The veteran linebacker spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jets before establishing himself as one of the NFL's premier defenders elsewhere. Now back in Florham Park, he's looking to help lead a team with legitimate playoff aspirations.

Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, understands exactly what the Jets mean to the fan base. The New Jersey native said he wants to help restore pride to an organization that's spent years searching for sustained success.
"I want Jets fans to be proud of the team," Fitzpatrick said. "I want Jets fans to be proud of wearing Jets hats, Jets T-shirts, wearing the green and white. I grew up in Jersey, I know how Jets fans feel. But we haven't had a lot of success in the last few years."

Winning games, not words, will ultimately determine how fans remember Davis and Fitzpatrick's time in New York. Still, their early comments reflect a pair of accomplished veterans who understand both the expectations and the responsibility that come with wearing a Jets uniform.
