Geno Smith made the New York Jets wait a week before he could make his debut 2026 debut, but it was worth the wait.
Smith, 35, was traded for this offseason by the Jets. Upon his return to next work, Smith sustained an unfortunate knee injury late last week and could not play in his team's preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fast forward to this past Friday, Smith showed why trading for him might've been a good idea.
Smith and the Jets took the opening kickoff the length of the field and scored to take a 7-0 lead. On the drive, Smith was a perfect 7-for-7 passing and eventually found tight end Jelani Woods on a 13-yard pass for the score.
New York head coach Aaron Glenn was certainly pleased.
"Very, very efficient," Glenn said. "He
looked very comfortable, did exactly what we were looking for."
Despite the perfect progression, Smith took a veteran approach to his production.
"You always want to start fast," Smith said. "Definitely a lot of room for improvement."
