The New York Jets and Tennessee Titans will kickoff their 2026 NFL regular season schedules on Sunday when the two teams do battle at Nissan Stadium in Week 1.
Like there will be every week, there are plenty of expected headline that will pop up during the days leading up to this one. Some obvious, others not so much.
With that, here are Jets Wire's
five storylines to watch for ahead of Jets at Titans:
Saleh welcomes Jets
The clear cut leader of headlines and the exact reason why the Jets and Titans face each other in Week 1: Robert Saleh is the head coach in Tennessee. Formerly the head coach of the Jets from 2021 to 2024, current Jets head coach Aaron Glenn essentially replaced Saleh.
Saleh spent just one season as the defensive coordinator with the San Francisco
49ers (his same job before the Jets) in 2025 before being hired as a head coach again by the Titans earlier this offseason.
This will be the biggest talking point of the upcoming week.
Geno's return
We got a brief look at quarterback Geno Smith during the preseason. But that's not the regular season.
Selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Jets, he was traded to New York by the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. it will be the first time he wears the Green and White since 2016.
Reich's full playbook
Smith is only part of the reason there is some excitement surrounding the Jets offense. This is a group that has star receiver Garrett Wilson leading a group of playmakers that also has Breece Hall in the backfield and two first-round rookies in Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. in the huddle.
An offense is usually pretty vanilla in the preseason, though. What does new offensive coordinator Frank Reich have in store?
Glenn calling the shots
And in a similar fashion, with Glenn now calling the plays on defense, how different will that side of the ball look?
Perhaps some hints will be given throughout the week...from either Glenn or Reich.
Health of a star
The Jets have their bell-cow running back in Hall. However, Hall is entering the regular season injured.
After a groin injury, Hall has smartly been placed in bubble wrap because of a groin injury.
Hall is the top-injured Jet heading into the regular season. He's supposed to be back Week 1. Will he?
Hints will be given all week at Hall's injury status.
