New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn recently delivered an unfortunate update on the status of first-round tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
The 16th overall selection in the 2026 NFL draft suffered a setback in his recovery from an offseason hernia. Sadiq will now be sidelined for an undisclosed period of time, though Glenn maintains hope he'll be ready for Week 1.
The Jets will have to lean on their depth at the position in Sadiq's absence. Sophomore Mason Taylor is tasked with stepping up. Veterans Jeremy Ruckert and Jelani Woods will have bigger opportunities at training camp moving forward.
Ruckert especially capitalized at Tuesday's session, making a team-high four receptions in practice, according to Rich Cimini. The veteran Ruckert will see increased
reps at practice. It's good to see him already taking advantage of the opportunity.
It was more of a mixed bag for Taylor in the first practice without Sadiq. The sophomore second-round pick registered one catch and one focus drop. Taylor was also the intended target of a Geno Smith interception that was picked off by starting cornerback Brandon Stephens.
Sadiq will probably miss a chunk of the preseason. That means more Taylor, Ruckert, and Woods. It represents a pivotal period in the tight end room.
