Geno Smith explains what Adonai Mitchell's return would mean for Jets

TheNew York Jets could use another weapon in the passing game as they prepare for an important AFC East matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell's potential return would give quarterback Geno Smith another receiver capable of challenging defenses in multiple ways. Smith made it clear that having more options available would benefit the offense.

Mitchell (finger) returned to practice Wednesday and was listed as a limited participant because of a finger injury. While his availability remains something to monitor, the quarterback also discussed the value Mitchell could bring if he is ready to contribute against Miami (0-5).

Smith praised, highlighting his ability to stretch the field for the Jets (2-4) while also serving as

a reliable possession receiver. That combination can create problems for opposing defenses because Mitchell can threaten them vertically while giving Smith another option when the offense needs to move the chains.

"The more guys, the merrier," Smith said.

The quarterback's assessment underscores why Mitchell's availability matters beyond simply adding another name to the lineup. A receiver who can win downfield and make himself available underneath gives the offense more flexibility, potentially forcing defenders to account for different areas of the field rather than focusing on a narrower group of targets.

However, the Jets cannot afford to let the possibility of getting Mitchell back distract them from the challenge ahead. Smith also addressed the difficulty of facing theDolphins in an AFC East showdown, recognizing that the division matchup demands the team's full attention.

For New York, getting Mitchell involved would be a welcome boost, but the priority remains executing against Miami. If Mitchell is available, his versatility could give Smith another valuable option in a game where offensive flexibility and timely conversions could make a significant difference.
