The rebuilding New York Jets are slated to be equipped with three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL draft. In addition to their own selection, they also are promised the first-round picks originally belonging to the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys. That makes paying close attention to how the Colts and Cowboys are performing a worthwhile exercise.
Entering Week 8, those three Jets selections are penciled in for Nos. 7, 10, and 12 overall
(according to Tankathon).A big-time development that is relevant to the Jets happened on Tuesday. The Colts are admitting defeat on their season and heading for a full-blown rebuild. They traded elite veterans IOL Quenton Nelson (to the Seahawks) and DT DeForest Buckner (to the 49ers) in exchange for draft
capital on Tuesday.
That's fantastic news for the Jets. It likely means the Colts will continue losing down the stretch, possibly improving the Jets' first-round pick. Currently, the Colts pick is the highest of the Jets' three selections (No. 7 overall).
The Colts could also trade additional veterans. Running back Jonathan Taylor is the big question mark. Wide receiver Josh Downs, on an expiring contract, will also plausibly be traded before the deadline.
The Sauce Gardner trade has been a full-blown disaster for the Colts, and it's about to pay major dividends for the Jets.
