There's no denying that New York Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. has been an up-and-down performer at training camp. The Jets have Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell in the top two receiving roles. If Cooper is going to build momentum as the third receiver in the offense, now's the time.
The Jets have a better supporting cast on offense than given credit for. Wilson and Mitchell should form a strong duo at receiver. Breece Hall is a bellcow back. Kenyon Sadiq and Mason Taylor allow the Jets to run heavier tight end packages.
For Cooper to be relevant as a rookie, he needs to take advantage of every remaining practice at camp.
Cooper has occasionally struggled to create separation in drills. Meanwhile third-year receiver Isaiah Williams
is having a strong camp. If the Jets are honest about their evaluations, Williams could even eat into Cooper's playing time.
Cooper notably played deep into the Jets' first preseason game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former Indiana standout recorded two receptions for 31 yards. Cooper's playing time proved the Jets wanted to see more.
Cooper enjoyed a strong practice at Tuesday's session, according to various local reporters in attendance. That's the type of performance the rookie wideout needs to build on as he attempts to capture momentum with the regular season fast approaching. Cooper remains a work in progress, and that's okay.
