One of the biggest storylines in the NFL lately was the trade request submitted by Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea. The situation got resolved, as the Bucs appeased Vea by signing him to a one-year extension worth $30 million. It turns out the New York Jets are pretty fortunate that the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle didn't end up in the AFC North.
The Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills were among the teams that expressed interest in trading for Vea, according to a report by Jordan Schultz. It would have been a terrible development for the Jets to see Vea land with the Bills in the division. Luckily, the Buccaneers decided to pay up as opposed to trading him.
The rebuilding Jets are already trailing the Super Bowl-contending Bills
in the division. They'll be thankful Buffalo didn't get even stronger by acquiring Vea. He would have totally transformed the middle of that Bills defense.
Plus, the Jets obviously value Vea's skill set. General manager Darren Mougey hopefully traded for a younger version of Vea earlier this offseason by acquiring T'Vondre Sweat from the Tennessee Titans. Sweat recently returned to Jets practice and made an immediate impact.
Thankfully, Vea is staying put in Tampa Bay, far away from Buffalo and the AFC East.

The deal is now done and Vea is under contract in total for 2 years, $54M. https://t.co/KY07p8GYyn
