Jets' Geno Smith has perfect message for critics (or lack thereof)

The New York Jets have a quarterback that impressed on opening day. That hasn't always been said.

After trading for former draft pick Geno Smith this offseason, the Jets (1-0) looked impressive on offense in a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans (0-1).

It has been a long time since the Jets had consistent play from a quarterback, even in a single game. Despite that, while Smith did crack a smile, he did not want to give into the idea of any critics this earlier in his second tenure with Gang Green.

"I can't hear any critics, I'm sorry," Smith said. "I just focus on what I have to do every day."

Smith was 19-for-24 for 215 passing yards in the win. He spread the ball around well to seven different receivers during the contest.

Smith's willingness

to not focus on just star players like Garrett Wilson in the passing game was also reflected in the comments made by offensive coordinator Frank Reich's breakdown of the QB and recalling a moment the two shared.

"Geno looked at me and said, 'Coach, there are no bad plays, every call on that sheet you get us, we're going to make it work,'" Reich said.
