No NFL team makes it through training camp with a completely healthy roster. One of the questions the New York Jets have to answer isn't whether adversity will arrive. It's whether a team has built enough depth to absorb it without disrupting the bigger picture.
Through the opening stretch of camp, head coach Aaron Glenn's squad appears to beanswering the questions being asked about them in encouraging fashion
. Several players have missed time for varying reasons, injuries to key pieces included. That has created opportunities for others to step into larger roles.
Depth is one of the league's most obvious and talked-about resources. It's easy to celebrate star power in the spring, but championships are often shaped by the players asked to contribute
when the starters aren't available.
That's why organizations spend so much time building capable second units instead of relying exclusively on headline names. The Jets seem to have embraced that philosophy.
It has been particularly important as players work through minor injuries and routine training camp maintenance. Instead of forcing starters back onto the field prematurely, the Jets have been able to continue installing the offense and defense while giving other players valuable repetitions.
Those reps matter. They accelerate development, strengthen competition and often reveal contributors who may have otherwise remained buried on the depth chart. Just as importantly, they reinforce confidence in the roster's overall construction.
No team wants to deal with injuries, especially before the regular season begins, but successful organizations understand that surviving adversity is just as much about preparation as it is about good fortune. The Jets won't measure the success of their offseason solely by how their starters perform in September. They'll also judge it by how well the roster responds when those starters inevitably miss time.
Early in training camp, New York is showing signs that it may have built enough depth to withstand those challenges. If that trend continues, the adversity of August could become one of the biggest reasons the Jets feel more prepared when meaningful football begins.
