Geno Smith looked exactly like the New York Jets hoped he would in Week 1.
The Jets (1-0) cruised to a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans (0-1) in their season opener on Sunday. The score line could've been even more lopsided for the Jets.
Regardless, Geno Smith led the way for Gang Green under center in his season debut after he was traded to New York this offseason. The QB was a steady 19-for-24 passing for 215 yards. Smith did not score, but he spread the ball around to seven difference receivers.
While steady play might not sound mind blowing, that's the type of effort the Jets have not gotten from their quarterbacks in recent years. That's probably why New York head coach Aaron Glenn was satisfied after the contest.
"That's one of the things
that we talked about too that creates game success, quarterback efficiency," Glenn said. "He's a damn good player."
Smith took a bit more of a mellow approach to winning just one of hopefully many games in 2026.
"Just feels like football," Smith said via video conference. "Felt great to be out there with the guys and chasing the goal, which is to be 1-0."
