New York Jets sophomore tight end Mason Taylor suffered a thumb injury in the team's Week 2 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers. Taylor has officially been listed as week-to-week, and is expected to miss Sunday's Week 3 versus the Detroit Lions. This should create a huge opportunity for rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
Taylor leads all Jets TEs in snaps through two weeks (78). Sadiq has earned 55 snaps, with veteran Jeremy Ruckert getting 54 reps. Both Sadiq and Taylor should benefit from the available opportunities in Taylor's absence.
Sadiq has recorded five receptions (catching all five of his targets) for 38 receiving yards through two appearances. The former Oregon standout rushed for a red-zone touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in Week
1. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich has shown a willingness to get creative with his usage.
Sunday's Jets-Lions game could be a high-scoring affair. The Lions are currently allowing a second-worst 35.5 points per game. There could be opportunities for Sadiq to generate explosive plays in the passing game.
Taylor's availability is touch-and-go while he recovers from a thumb injury. Sadiq will be tasked with taking advantage while TE1 is sidelined. This could be Sadiq's big showcase.
