The New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders will continue their 2026 NFL regular season schedules against each other on Sunday when the two teams do battle at MetLife Stadium in Week 8.
Like there will be every week, there are plenty of expected headlines that will pop up during the days leading up to this one between the Jets (2-5) and Raiders (3-4). Some obvious, others not so much.
With that, here are Jets Wire's five storylines to watch for ahead of Week 8:
Reeling from the Dolphins
While last week's loss to the Miami Dolphins is in the rearview mirror in a scheduling sense, there is still going to be some fallout. When you lose to a winless team, the Jets need to expect to be asked about how they will respond to such a brutal loss... because it's going to happen in the coming
day.
In a positive note for New York, the Raiders have lost four-straight games. That is a team you want to bounce back against.
Garrett's future
The Jets' No. 1 wide receiver Garrett Wilson was spotted having an angry moment on the sideline during that loss to the Dolphins. Wilson and quarterback Geno Smith both downplayed the situation after the contest, but it's going to linger with the 2026 NFL trade deadline approaching in November.
Breece's health
It was surprising that Jets running back Breece Hall did not play against the Dolphins. He returned to practice, and yes he was limited in workouts last week, but Hall was out there practicing. All signs are pointing to the Jets having their No. 1 running back in the fold against the Raiders, but it's still not for certain.
Two-minute woes
Once again the Jets struggled in two-minute situations last week under the watch of head coach Aaron Glenn. The lowly Dolphins found success in this area against New York and the Jets are now under the spotlight after this stat has surfaced: Glenn's team has been outscored 107-6 in two-minute situations since he took over.
That's brutal. When will progress happen? How will Glenn improve here?
Still facing Kirk
The opposing quarterback will always be discussed by the Jets' locker room throughout a week. But we have a curveball here because it sounds like Raiders QB Kirk Cousins will still start--but he has a shorter leash after four-straight losses.
But who knows, could the Raiders change that? Could Cousins be replaced by No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza in the middle of the Jets-Raiders game?
