Garrett Wilson's frustration was visible on the sideline during the New York Jets' 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins
, but the conversation that followed revealed a shared concern about the offense rather than a personal dispute. Wilson finished with just two catches for 26 yards on three targets, extending a quiet stretch for New York's top receiver, one that most would like to see end... and soon.Head coach Aaron Glenn took responsibility for Wilson's limited involvement, while Smith explained how Miami's coverage affected the passing game. Wilson, meanwhile, made it clear that the exchange was about finding solutions and helping the offense become more productive.
Aaron Glenn, Geno Smith acknowledge Garrett Wilson needs more opportunities
"A player of his magnitude, we have to do everything we can to try to get him
the ball. Again, I'm going to put that on myself."
Those were the words of one Aaron Glenn following a frustrating divisional loss.
Smith's explanation was more about schematics. He mentioned that Miami frequently used zone coverage and shaded defenders toward Wilson, creating opportunities for other receivers. However, he also acknowledged that New York must find better ways to involve its star receiver.
"They were clouding the inside, they played a lot of zone where you got to see other guys step up and make plays," Smith said. "And I think we all can do a better job at finding ways to get in more targets and more touches. But again the ball has to go where it goes based on the coverage. And hats off to them for the game plan they had."

Wilson also clarified that the sideline exchange was about collaboration, not animosity toward his quarterback. The receiver said both players were frustrated with the offense's performance and wanted to be more aggressive, with the discussion focused on finding immediate solutions.

The exchange showed that the frustration was less about who was at fault than how the Jets could get their offense back on track. Glenn accepted responsibility, Smith explained the coverage challenges, and Wilson made clear that his priority was finding solutions. The Jets don't need to force the ball to Wilson on every snap, but they do need to ensure their most important receiver remains a meaningful part of the game plan, even when opponents make him the focus of their coverage.
