The New York Jets lost an absolute heartbreaker in Week 2. They were defeated 20-17 by the Green Bay Packers in overtime. The Jets were competitive, coming extremely close to capturing a dreamlike 2-0 start.
Jets Wire has identified three happenings we learned about the Jets on Sunday.
Aaron Glenn's questionable clock management
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was unquestionably on the hot seat entering 2026. The dominant Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans did him favors, but questionable clock management against the Packers brought the skeptics out again. After blowing a 17-7 fourth-quarter lead, the Jets had an opportunity to get the ball back in regulation.
After the defense stopped the Packers with around 1:05 remaining in regulation, Glenn oddly decided against calling a timeout. The
Packers took a delay of game penalty with a 10-second runoff, ensuring the Jets wouldn't get the ball back. Deciding against the timeout made no sense whatsoever.
The defense... is legit?
The Jets defense was excellent for a second consecutive week. The Packers were 1-of-10 on third and fourth downs. They were limited to fewer than 200 yards of offense, with Packers QB Jordan Love having 145 passing yards. The Jets should have won this game.
Geno Smith can WIN with these Jets
Jets QB Geno Smith performed well enough to win this game. He's currently benefiting from a stout defense. Smith was 27-of-41 for 247 yards and a touchdown. He hasn't turned over the football through two contests. This version of the Jets can win football games with Smith at quarterback.
