Adonai Mitchell could be an important player for the New York Jets in 2026 if training camp is a preview of what's to come.
FOX Sports believes putting Mitchell in a position do to that would be a smart thing to do by the Jets.
Heading into the upcoming NFL season, New York's coaching staff is hoping to find a complement to star wide receiver Garrett Wilson on the team's offense. There is promise on the team's roster from the 2026 NFL Draft via first-round picks Omar Cooper Jr. and Kenyon Sadiq.
FOX Sports thinks that's a good idea because the outlet named one start that is set to emerge for every NFL team in 2026. The one projected to in New York is Mitchell.
Mitchell was acquired by the Jets in the mid-season trade that sent cornerback Sauce Gardner
to the Indianapolis Colts last year. In eight games with the Jets, Mitchell hauled in a modest 24 catches on 58 targets for 301 yards and two touchdowns.
Formerly a second-round pick, Mitchell's NFL career has yet to take off, but he has taken flight at Jets training camp this summer. There is hope brewing he has a chemistry building with quarterback Geno Smith that could propel him to the No. 2 wide receiver position across from Garrett Wilson.
Because of that, FOX Sports selecting Mitchell as a potential breakout player for the Jets in 2026 make sense.

He looked like a throw-in in the Sauce Gardner trade, but maybe he was a little more than that. The 6-2, 205-pound Mitchell was a second-round pick in 2024, but he had some drop issues in Indianapolis, plus a bone-headed fumble when he prematurely celebrated near the goal line, costing the Colts a touchdown. But he is still only 23 years old, and he had 24 catches for 301 yards and two touchdowns in eight games for the Jets in 2025 despite their horrific quarterback situation. That part should be a little better this season with Geno Smith throwing him the ball. Mitchell will also have less attention from defenses with a healthy Garrett Wilson lining up alongside him. That’ll give Mitchell plenty of room to start fulfilling his potential and show he can be, at least, a good No. 2.
