The New York Jets released Wednesday's injury report ahead of Sunday's Week 3 showdown with the Detroit Lions. There's good news.
Veteran defensive end Joseph Ossai may finally make his Jets debut, as he's listed as a limited participant on the report.
The Jets signed Ossai to a three-year, $34.5 million contract in free agency to help boost their pass rush.
The former Texas standout has missed both regular-season games with a foot injury he picked up during training camp. His return would be a promising addition against the Lions (1-1) in Week 3.
The Jets (1-1) have done a good job rushing the passer even without Ossai at their disposal. The Jets' pass-rush-win-rate through Week 2 is 64%, 3rd-best in the entire NFL, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
They've sacked opposing quarterbacks on six occasions in two games.
Meanwhile the Lions have shown some weaknesses throughout their offensive line. A returning Ossai would join David Bailey, Kingsley Enagbare, and Will McDonald IV as options on the edge. Head coach Aaron Glenn is rotating pass rushers as needed.
The Jets have captured some promising results as a pass-rushing unit so far. Getting Ossai back makes them even stronger. Expect them to apply pressure on Lions quarterback Jared Goff on Sunday.
