The New York Jets have shown encouraging signs offensively through the first two weeks of the season, but the numbers suggest there is still room for growth.
Head. coach Aaron Glenn's squad ranked 14th. They're 13th in passing yards with 433. They're 17th in rushing yards (219). Unfortunately, they're 20th in points scored (40).
New York sits squarely in the middle of the NFL offensively entering Week 3. Several teams have produced more explosive offensive performances through two games, while others are still searching for consistency.

At first glance, those rankings paint an interesting picture.
The Jets have moved the ball well enough to rank in the middle of the league overall and sit comfortably inside the top half of the NFL through the air. The offense has generated yardage, sustained drives and produced enough explosive plays to keep defenses honest.
The disconnect comes when those drives reach scoring territory. Teams that rank near the top of the league in points typically capitalize on their opportunities, particularly in the red zone. Through two games, the Jets have not always done that. Whether it has been penalties, negative plays, stalled possessions, or missed opportunities near the goal line, too many promising drives have ended without seven points.
That reality becomes even more important as the schedule grows more challenging.
The encouraging news is that the foundation appears to be in place. Quarterback Geno Smith has helped direct an efficient passing attack, while the running game has shown flashes behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. The offense has demonstrated it can move the football against NFL defenses. The next step is finishing what it starts.
Good offenses generate yards. Great offenses convert those yards into touchdowns. If the Jets can become more efficient in scoring situations and take advantage of the opportunities they are creating, their ranking in points scored should begin to climb.
With two games in the books and a long season still ahead, that may be the biggest factor in determining just how high this offense can rise by year's end.
