What is the story about?

The New York Jets have invested heavily in rebuilding their offensive lineover the past two offseasons. That has created a lot of hype.

Much of the recent attention has centered ontackle Armand Membou's strong start to training camp.

Head coach Aaron Glenn believes the bigger story lies on both edges of the line. Speaking after another padded practice, he praised Membou's development but quickly shifted the conversation toward left tackle Olu Fashanu, making it clear he views the pair as the foundation of the Jets' future up front.

Glenn didn't want Fashanu's progress overshadowed by the attention surrounding Membou'straining camp battles with rookie edge rusher David Bailey. He'd rather shift the focus to two young starters he's growing increasingly

excited about.

"Well, when I talked about Membou, I did bring Olu up. I never want him to get lost in the battle with David Bailey or any of our EDGE guys. If you take a good look at him, he's changed his body quite a bit... He looks just like how you want to draw a left tackle up... Both of those guys really have the demeanor of, 'We want to be the best two tackles in the league.'"

It's a bold standard, but Glenn also acknowledged that aspirations alone won't earn league-wide respect. The NFL features 31 other teams and no shortage of elite offensive tackles. If Membou and Fashanu want to be mentioned among the game's best duos, they'll have to prove it over the course of a season.

Fashanu echoed that mindset after practice, emphasizing how critical both tackle spots are to an offense's success.

"For an offense to be successful," Fashanu said. "Both of your tackles need to be solid."
