The New York Jets are hopeful they'll field an effective offensive line in 2026. Even though the roster remains in rebuild mode, the offensive line projects as a pretty impactful unit.
Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou are ascending building blocks at offensive tackle, and Joe Tippmann recently earned a contract extension as a high-level guard.
As an overall unit, perhaps they could draw inspiration from the Jets' legendary 2008 offensive line. Pro Football Focus recently ranked the highest-graded position groups in their era.
The Jets' 2008 offensive line topped that respective position group via PFF:
"The Jets probably weren’t the initial guess here, but looking back at their roster helps explain their two-year stretch of trench dominance," PFF wrote.
"Four of New York’s five starting offensive linemen — Nick Mangold, Damien Woody, D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Brandon Moore — all played to a 90.9-plus overall grade. Meanwhile, Hall of Fame inductee Alan Faneca was the “worst” of the contingent with a 79.0. The unit also benefitted from only utilizing only those five starters all year."
That 2008 Jets offensive line scored an elite grade of 95.1. Mangold (RIP), Ferguson, and Woody are among the Jets' biggest legends of the past two decades. Hopefully the Jets' 2026 offensive line can capture some of that magic.
