The New York Jets are about a handful of practices into 2026 training camp. One of the biggest storylines has been how dominant starting quarterback Geno Smith has been. Smith continues building momentum for himself at practice that should carry over into the regular-season campaign.
The highlight of Smith's early camp performances occurred on Saturday. The veteran starting quarterback went a perfect 11-for-11 with three touchdowns during 11-on-11 team drills. Smith also went 4-for-4 with a touchdown to rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in 7-on-7.
The Jets reunited with Smith this offseason to provide an upgrade on the quarterback play they received last season. Thus far, there's every reason to believe Smith will be significantly better than
Justin Fields and Brady Cook were in 2025. The offense is trending in the right direction under new offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
Everyone expects the Jets to draft a quarterback in 2027. The franchise is equipped with three first-round picks in what's being described as a strong quarterback class. There's an alternate universe out there where Smith establishes himself as a multi-year starter for the Jets though.
Smith looks extremely comfortable in Reich's offense. Early returns at training camp have been extremely promising when watching the offense. Smith continues to shine at practice.
Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 NFL season.
