The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs no longer have the country's best scoring offense after the Alabama Crimson Tide held Georgia to 20 points in Georgia's 20-17 win on Saturday. Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton played quite well at Alabama, but Georgia is looking for more points moving forward.
Georgia still has 277 total points over six games, which is the most through six games in school history. The Bulldogs are averaging 46.1 points per game.
Stockton and Georgia did not pile up points against Alabama, but the Bulldogs were able to convert key third downs and ran out the clock late in the game.
"I think it's attributed to the offensive staff," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Georgia's third down success. "It's attributed to the quarterback play.
It's attributed to the ability to run the ball on early downs and not get behind the sticks."
The Bulldogs lead the SEC in third down conversion rate at 55%. Georgia's third down success is a big reason why the Dawgs have the No. 1 scoring offense in the SEC. However, Georgia is averaging over three points per game less than the Miami Hurricanes, who lead the country in scoring and average 49.6 points per game.
