Following the Georgia Bulldogs' loss to the Auburn Tigers, Auburn's official social media account made sure to troll Georgia coach Kirby Smart. During Georgia and Auburn's controversial game in 2025, Smart appeared to be making a timeout gesture to the officials.
However, Smart denied calling timeout and instead accused Auburn of simulating a snap (which the Tigers were doing). After the game, coach Smart explained his gesture.
“They’re clapping,” Smart said after the 2025 Auburn game. “So I told him before the game, if these guys clap, it’s a penalty. They can’t clap because it will fault snap. I’ve lost games on that before in the stadium. And I told him I said they clap. I want to tell you, I got somebody in the box watching every play. They were
clapping. So I ran over to him and said they’re clapping. They’re clapping. And he thought I called timeout. And so I wanted to make sure he understood.”
Georgia won the 2025 meeting with Auburn, 20-10. Smart's gesture was clearly a timeout and the Tigers remembered him for lying about it.
The Tigers got the last laugh in 2026 with Auburn and coach Alex Golesh stunning Georgia behind 24 unanswered points and a game-winning field goal. The Tigers' official social media account made sure to rub the loss in Georgia's face.
"A big win deserves applause," Auburn's official social media account said in a postgame video.
