Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann has been named as a candidate for the Florida State Seminoles head coach job opening. Schumann has led some elite defenses during his tenure at Georgia and is a young, capable coach. Schumann is an elite recruiter and has done a great job of landing top talent, especially at linebacker.
Schumann has previously been named as a head coach candidate for several vacancies. He has an excellent job at Georgia and, like his head coach Kirby Smart, does not appear to be in a rush to land his first career head coaching job.
Schumann does not have a buyout in his Georgia contract. He is paid $2.2 million per year at UGA, which is more than many Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) head coaches.
USA TODAY Sports
names Schumann as one of six candidates for the Florida State vacancy. The Seminoles are expected to be one of the better available jobs this cycle.
"Schumann has been very patient in evaluating his best opportunity, knowing he can afford to wait his turn while putting together elite defense after elite defense with the Bulldogs," Paul Myerberg and John Brice wrote. "At this point, he has nothing left to prove. That would put the onus on the Seminoles to show they have the resources and commitment to give Schumann what he needs to bring Florida State back into ACC contention."
Schumann, 36, joins Jimbo Fisher, Manny Diaz (Duke), Zach Kittley (FAU), Blake Baker (LSU) and Deion Sanders (Colorado) as Florida State's top coach candidates.
Schumann has served under Kirby Smart throughout the entire Smart era in Athens. He has coached Georgia's inside linebackers the entire time and began serving as co-defensive coordinator in 2019. In 2024, he was promoted to defensive coordinator. He has won four SEC championships and two national championships at Georgia.
