The Georgia Bulldogs are the new No. 1 team in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Georgia was previously No. 2 and moved up after the Texas Longhorns lost to the Oklahoma Sooners. Georgia received 60 of 74 first-place votes.
In Week 6, Georgia beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 20-17 in one of the most impressive wins of the season. Alabama stayed put at No. 7 after the loss.
After beating Alabama, Georgia has just two games left against ranked teams this season. Georgia plays No. 10 Ole Miss on the road and No. 13 Missouri at home.
The Bulldogs' win over Alabama gives Georgia a lead over the rest of the SEC. No other SEC team is undefeated after Week 6 action as Georgia looks to win a third straight SEC championship.
"And another week in the SEC because humility
is a week away, as you saw today," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after beating Alabama. "So it’s gonna be physical, it’s gonna be tough."
Next up for Georgia is an Oct. 17 home game against the Auburn Tigers, who are coming off a bye week.
