After a much needed bye week for the Georgia Bulldogs, they were able to bounce back into the win column as they were able to dominate their rival, the Florida Gators in Atlanta, Georgia at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The Bulldogs came off an upset loss just two weeks ago to the Auburn Tigers at home. Georgia clearly made some adjustments since then and took advantage of their bye week allowing players to get healthy and to fix issues that in large part cost them the game against Auburn. However, the Bulldogs defense looked nothing short of spectacular against the Gators.
The Florida Gators came into this contest playing at a pretty solid level and gave plenty of reason for people to believe they could come into Atlanta and defeat the Bulldogs. The biggest
question over the course of this season has been the consistency of quarterback play. Between junior Aaron Philo and redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr. the Gators have had sparks from each signal caller throughout the season. Philo was named the starter prior to the game against the Bulldogs but didn't finish the contest as the starter. Jones Jr. flashed signs but also made some costly mistakes in which Georgia took advantage of.
Georgia reacts to win over Florida
Kirby Smart reacts to Bulldogs' defense
"I thought Schumann had a good game plan, a very disruptive game plan... the defensive staff did a tremendous job and tried to keep things simple because Buster causes a lot of confusion. We didn't do a whole lot." Smart said.
The Bulldogs defensive staff did an outstanding job against Florida and the biggest highlight of the day for the defense is the fashion they shut down Gators running back Jaden Baugh. Georgia's defense held Baugh to just 38 rushing yards on 17 carries. That was a major performance from the Bulldogs defense and a statement was made on that side of the ball.
Georgia LB Chris Cole reacts to Georgia's win
"We knew coming in that Florida had a lot of good running backs, and especially Baugh, so we had to be able to stop the run and just kind of stop explosive plays." Chris Cole said.
The Bulldogs did exactly that. They stopped the run and slowed down one of the best backs in the SEC this season. Georgia certainly shut down the explosive plays and they were able to contain any short positive plays as well.
TheBulldogs will look to take this momentum on the road next week against another big challenge facing off against the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford. They will definitely need this kind of defensive play against Ole Miss signal caller, Trinidad Chambliss if they want to come out victorious.
