The Minnesota Vikings are bringing back undrafted wide receiver Dillon Bell, who has had an up-and-down week. The Vikings initially had Bell on their 53-man roster.
"(Dillon) Bell reached out yesterday (after making the 53-man roster) and thanked the staff and myself for how hard we pushed him and how we challenged him," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "He felt like it came down to his versatility and the things he can do as a wide out, but also his special teams value. They went after him because we told them that's what he was.
"He had great special teams value. He can do everything on special teams because he is built like a running back, runs like a receiver and has great ball skills."
However, the Vikings released Bell in order to free up
room for other transactions. Bell, a former Georgia Bulldog, cleared waivers after his release and has now signed as a member of Minnesota's practice squad.
Bell is one of four players to sign with the Vikings' practice squad along with veteran linebacker Kyle Van Noy, running back DeeJay Dallas and quarterback Max Brosmer.
Bell is a versatile playmaker with experience playing both running back and wide receiver in college. Bell can also serve as a punt and kickoff returner, so it would not be surprising to see him promoted to Minnesota's active roster this season.
