The Georgia Bulldogs feasted on turnovers from Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer as the Bulldogs mauled the Sooners in a 41-13 win. Georgia raced out to a 28-0 first half lead and did not look back from there.
"Oklahoma helped us a lot," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after the win. The Sooners had four turnovers, which set up Georgia for 17 points. The most notable turnover came with Georgia leading 14-0. Mateer did a play action at the goal line and had an open receiver, but he fumbled the ball and Georgia linebacker Chris Cole rumbled 85 yards for a touchdown.
Georgia's offense capitalized on short field and the Bulldogs held a 20-plus point lead for the entire second half. Georgia did struggle at times offensively, especially in the second half. Quarterback
Gunner Stockton started the day nine of nine for 98 yards and a touchdown, but he finished the game just 14 of 25 for 171 yards. He threw one touchdown and one interception, which led to Oklahoma's only touchdown against the Georgia first-team defense.
"We've got to play better in the second half," Smart said after the game. Adding that "the scoreboard doesn't matter" and Georgia has to play up to its standard.
Georgia wide receiver Talyn Taylor had a career day. He looked like Georgia's No. 1 wide receiver and finished the day with four receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.
The Oklahoma game was Georgia's 52nd straight win over an unranked opponent. Next up, Georgia hosts the Vanderbilt Commodores and former five-star Georgia quarterback commitment Jared Curtis.
