The Georgia Bulldogs had an SEC showdown with Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, and they were able to get the victory, 20-17. A major contributor to the win was Georgia's running game.
The Bulldogs were able to gain a total of 206 rushing yards. Alabama's defense struggled to contain that factor of Georgia's offense. Five different players had carries for the Bulldogs. More particularly, running backs Dwight Phillips Jr. and Bo Walker.
Phillips had 17 carries for 120 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Phillips was able to get the second level of the defense multiple times for big plays. He set up drives for the Bulldogs' offense and helped them get going throughout the game. Walker had 10 carries for 69 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. Walker is
getting into the rotation more and has made an impact on the field.
Nate Frazier did not play in the game, and neither did Chauncey Bowens. But the combination of Phillips and Walker was able to help carry them to victory.
"What a great kid, man," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Dwight Phillips after his career game against Alabama. "This Dwight Phillips, man, y’all don’t know how special this kid is. He ain’t complained one time since being here, and he’s so tough for his size."
Georgia will face the Auburn Tigers next on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Georgia may have to lean on Walker and Phillips against Auburn. Georgia finally has a bye week after the Auburn game and can hopefully get healthier in the backfield.
