The Georgia Bulldogs are no longer the No. 1 team in ESPN's football power index. Georgia is 5-0 and gained another blowout SEC win on Saturday in a 38-14 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores. However, that was not enough for Georgia to hold the top spot in the FPI.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are back again as the No. 1 team in the FPI. Ohio State earned a 31-14 road win over the Iowa Hawkeyes in Week 5 behind another 200-plus yard, multi-touchdown performance from star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
After Georgia and Ohio State are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who are a perfect 5-0. No. 4 Texas and No. 5 Miami round out the top-five of FPI, which is defined a "measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance
going forward" for the rest of the season.
The FPI is meant to forecast, which explains why Ohio State is No. 1 despite having a loss. The FPI gives Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama and Miami over 10% chances to win the national championship. Indiana (8.4%) is the only other team with over a 3% chance to win the national championship.
