The Georgia Bulldogs came ready to play on Saturday night against the Ole Miss Rebels. Georgia raced out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and a 28-0 lead in the contest. Georgia snapped a 16-game Ole Miss home winning streak and got some revenge for losing to the Rebels in the Sugar Bowl last season.
Georgia appeared to get a few favorable calls in the contest including a roughing the passer penalty and a pass interference penalty. The pass interference call drew heavy boos from the Ole Miss crowd. Some Ole Miss fans threw objects on the field following the call in the first half. That was about the only thing slowing down the Georgia offense all night.
The trash on the field caused a significant delay in the game. Georgia was up 21-0 at that point
with a little over five minutes left in the second quarter. The delay did not stop Georgia's momentum. Players walked toward the middle of the field to be out of the range of fans throwing objects during the delay.
This is the third Georgia road game where opposing fans have thrown trash on their own field following a perceived missed call. In 2024, Texas fans threw trash after a pass interference penalty that was later reversed. This year, Alabama fans threw trash after a pass interference penalty was not called against Georgia. A fine and potential bans for the fans responsible could be what happens next for the Ole Miss fans that participated in the incident.
"We played well up front, we got pressure, it was a big win for Georgia and our program," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after the game.
