The Georgia Bulldogs went against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, defeating them 20-17. Running back Dwight Phillips Jr. had a great performance, carrying the ball 17 times for 120 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry.
Phillips helped carry the Bulldogs to victory. He was a major contributor, making it difficult for Alabama defenders to bring him down. He had big plays that set up points for Georgia. Phillips did sustain what appeared to be an upper body injury, but he did return to the game in the third quarter.
"I feel a little beat up, but through six games I bet everyone is feeling a little bruised up,” Phillips said following the Alabama game.
So far this season, Phillips has 255 yards and a touchdown. He's Georgia's leading rusher and one
of the last Bulldogs left standing with Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens and Dante Dowdell all missing the Alabama game.
Phillips' best game was against Alabama this past weekend. The run game is Georgia's bread and butter on offense, and they continue to lean on it. The Bulldogs have one of the best rushing attacks in the SEC.
Undefeated Georgia will take on Auburn next on Saturday, Oct. 17. Phillips is not listed on SEC availability report. Bowens is listed as out while Frazier is not listed on the report, but he hasn't played recently and it would be surprising to see him play with Georgia's bye being the following week.
"This Dwight Phillips, man, y’all don’t know how special this kid is," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Phillips. "He ain’t complained one time since being here, and he’s so tough for his size."
