Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton had a career-worst performance in Georgia's 27-8 win over the Florida Gators. Stockton completed 13 of 23 passes for 101 yards in Georgia's win. He added did not throw any touchdowns or interceptions and added 12 carries for 45 rushing yards.
Stockton and the Georgia passing game did not have to do too much in the Bulldogs' win over Florida. Georgia's running game was effective and the Dawgs took advantage of four turnovers and good special teams play.
Stockton finished the Florida game with a career-low (as a starter) 24.1 QBR. Stockton had not posted a QBR under 50 in any other game this season. Interestingly, his three turnover game in Georgia's loss to Auburn had a higher QBR at 54.3.
Following the
Florida game, Stockton has a QBR of 78.4, which is No. 19 in the nation. Stockton's QBR is down from last season when he finished with a QBR of 84.9, which was No. 6 in the nation.
Stockton deserves credit for avoiding mistakes in Georgia's win over Florida. However, he needs to produce more in the passing game for Georgia to win on Saturday against the Ole Miss Rebels.
“Yeah, it says he continues to improve," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Stockton. "He does what he has to do to win. He gets the tough, dirty yards. He usually doesn’t put us in (bad) situations, Dawgs don’t beat Dawgs right? He doesn’t turn the ball over, and then play good defense. And I don’t know how far that can take us.
"I do think there’s some things tonight that Gunner (Stockton) missed that he knows he can do better, and he can hit, and if he does, it takes us to another level. Because we really haven’t played where the offense was clicking completely and the defense was, we haven’t done that yet. But that’s what complementary football is.
"You’re gonna have an off night, you’re gonna have a mistake, you’re gonna have a turnover. Well, can each other, can the two work together to play really good football? And I don’t know when that’s gonna happen for us. But we can be really good if we’re clicking on both sides of the line. And that starts with him. I don’t think he played poorly tonight. I think he had some, looking back at the video, the game he had a couple times, he had some shots that we might have missed.”
Georgia will need Stockton to his on some explosive plays in the future, but he got the job done against Florida.
