ESPN "College GameDay" host Kirk Herbstreit shared some thoughts on Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton after Georgia's impressive road win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 6.
Stockton helped Georgia win with consistent passing. He completed 18 of 22 passes for 249 yards and threw one touchdown and one interception. He also added a rushing touchdown. Stockton bounced back nicely after throwing an interception and delivered numerous third down conversions.
His performance drew praise from Herbstreit, his head coach Kirby Smart, former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and more.
"Stetson Bennett kind of went through that throughout his career," Herbstreit said on Stockton being underrated and underappreciated. "I think we all appreciate him.
I think the Georgia fans do. This year, what he's done. He's the glue. He's the pulse of this team. The way he played tonight, we certainly saw that."
"The toughness, leadership, and energy he brings every Saturday are contagious," Herbstreit added via social media.
Coach Smart praised Stockton, along with Mike Bobo, in his postgame interview. He was proud of how Stockton played, but knows he can still improve.
"Yeah, it’s a deal that you get better with experience," Smart said on Stockton. "So he had a couple plays that, hey, they didn’t work out. He didn’t let them affect him. You know, he had the pick which was kind of batted. And then he had a boot that we thought could have been a big play that he underthrew. He doesn’t let things fester and affect him. And when he’s gotta stand in there and throw a bullet and make a play, he was able to do it tonight in really critical situations."
