Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey's Week 2 status is in doubt after he sustained a ribs injury in the Chargers' 26-14 loss in the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. McConkey is considered day-to-day, but missed Wednesday's practice.
The former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver is looking to put together another strong season for the Chargers. Los Angeles plays against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 4:05 p.m. ET. We'll know, at the latest, if McConkey is playing 90 minutes before kickoff if he's active for the game. McConkey is currently considered questionable for Sunday.
McConkey operates out of the slot, so if he has a ribs injury, then that would be very disruptive for him, since would be catching a lot of balls
over the middle of the field and absorbing significant hits from opposing defenders.
McConkey is the Chargers' top pass catching option. He hauled in five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. However, McConkey left the Chargers' Week 1 game after taking a big hit from Arizona linebacker Mack Wilson in the third quarter. McConkey did not return and is considered day-to-day.
"Ladd's a really good football player," Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert said after Los Angeles' Week 1 loss. "We're really glad to have him, and he made a ton of plays today, so I'm hoping he feels better."
If McConkey misses Week 2 or has a reduced workload, then the Chargers could target receivers Tre' Harris and Quentin Johnston more along with tight ends David Njoku and Oronde Gadsden. Through one game, McConkey is the Chargers leader in receptions, targets and yards.
